When you are a photographer, professional, amateur or hobbyist, and are planning a trip. You need to make sure your gear is safe while you are traveling! I used to joke before I had my daughter, my camera was my child so I was super protective of my camera bag and even who carried it (yes paranoid I know). So sit back and read about the best camera travel bags for your style!
So, I’ve gone through several camera bags in the last 20 years. The styles and sizes have grown and shrunk a few times with the amount of gear I travel with, and of course the upgrading of equipment over the years. Which means I’m a little picky on the bags, and now that I am traveling with a baby on my back and the camera on my front along with snacks and water and such – I need something lightweight but protective.

My very first pack!
1) eCostConnection Large Digital Camera / Video Padded Carrying Bag

This was my first bag, it had enough room for my two lenses and my camera body, which was perfect for me when I was starting.
2) CADeN Lightweight Vintage Waterproof Canvas DSLR SLR Shockproof Camera Shoulder Messenger Bag Compatible for Canon Sony Nikon

This was the bag I went to second, it was perfect for my short “hipster” period of life but I also love messenger bags and it was really comfortable!
3) Estarer SLR/DSLR Camera Backpack for Nikon Canon Sony Digital Lens GoPro Accessories 15.6″ Laptop w/Rain Cover Camera Bag

This is the bag I have now and I love it! However, it isn’t practical to walk around with everyday when traveling when I have a backpacked baby. I use this bag to get on and off the plane, it does slide over my suitcase handle easy for easier transportation between airports, planes, trains, etc. I also have it in purple.
4) Bellroy Sling Bag, Unisex Compact Crossbody Bag, Water-resistant Materials – Ink Blue

Funny enough this is the bag I landed on! The previous bag is how I transport my equipment to my travel destination, and then this beauty is how I travel around during the day. It is perfect to hold the important items like: keys, money, water, snacks, chap stick, camera, hand sanitizer, so I don’t have to walk around with a lot of extra weight on me while we are out exploring during the day. Plus it is small and flattens out which makes it really easy to pack as well!
I hope these tips have helped you a little when you are thinking about what camera bag best suits you! Just remember that a bag doesn’t have to be a crazy symbol of your personality, it can be simple, practical and it doesn’t have to be insanely expensive to protect your gear – the padding on the inside is mostly made up of the same product.
